As the days draw in a little darker and the air turns a tad crisper, our approach to what we make in the studios begins to shift too. From large salad bowls and beakers glazed in bright, joyful colours, to tiered cake stands and ocean themed plates made for those summer sailing journeys, our students’ work often reflects the seasons and the ways in which we use our pieces. Now, as autumn settles in, there is a more rustic approach to the finish of the work, with pieces glazed in earthy hues of brown, green and oatmeal, were seeing deep casserole dishes and generous soup bowls take centre stage, made lovingly for those shared hearty meals and warming suppers as we begin to hunker down for those colder evenings. It’s a gentle change of pace in the studio — from the bright, carefree pieces of summer to work to those that feel a little more grounded, tactile and comforting. This autumn, we have a few workshops to keep you busy, including creating portraiture in coil vases, with Adam Rush - Sgraffito Tiles and a Sun Moon and Star candle holders with Emily Joy. Then, in the New Year, we’ll be running our first Glaze Making Workshop, with Chiara Coppola where you can learn more about how to make your own glazes. And not to forget our annual Goodwill student exhibit and Xmas market. This year we open up more of the space for students, members and tutors to sell their work
