About Emily

Emily Joy teaches the kids’ pottery classes at Stroud Pottery, as well as running adults’ workshops specialising in Paperclay and Raku.

Since 2007, she has taught ceramics to adults, young people, and those with barriers to the arts in the Stroud area; at Stroud Pottery, Stroud College and other educational settings across the county. Emily also facilitates community projects as one half of creative partnership ‘Periscope’, inviting the public into open-access, non-hierarchical, immersive, creative spaces.

Emily’s passion is consent-based teaching, creating a safe and encouraging space for creative exploration in which every participant’s needs and opinions are valued. Emily is an environmentally and socially engaged artist with a studio in Stroud town centre, whose work reflects her training in ceramics and sculpture (BA (Hons) Ceramics and Painting, and MA Fine Art Sculpture). Her personal practice explores environmental loss and regeneration, which is reflected in her interest in sustainable working practices and collaborative processes. Emily is currently enjoying working with black clay, sculpting objects inspired by Swiss Alpine folklore and mythology.
